Queen of the Hills in Darjeeling

£895

“The Darjeeling Hill Railway is a joy on many levels. The day we  planned a journey on “The Queen of the Hills”, she was having trouble getting up enough steam. This gave me a wonderful opportunity to enjoy her finer detail as the team tried to nudge the engine into action. Our ninety minute return trip became an epic adventure. All other passengers resorted to taxis as we averaged one mile an hour up the hillside. Our loyalty was rewarded on the way home when the driver stopped right by Dali Gomba, a Buddhist monastery outside Darjeeling, to delivery us for afternoon prayers. Our trip had taken six hours.” – Hilary Stock
