Lichen on the Helford

“There is something mysterious about the high tide mark, where the trees meet the water. You never know what you might find. Sometimes it feels haunted, sometimes magical. On this day, I had a car full of 13-year-old boys brimming with energy. Hoping to enjoy a peaceful cup of tea with a friend, I released them onto the river bank, where they skimmed stones for hours. I explored the water’s edge as I waited for my friend to arrive, and amongst the low hanging branches of the trees, I found these extraordinary collections of lichen. The Helford is a place of dreams, the richness and fertility of its shoreline reflecting the purity and abundance of Cornish life.” – Hilary Stock
