Anthony Stevenson

“The rhythm of activity in Newlyn Harbour ebbs and flows depending on the tides and weather. At certain times of the day, the place is abuzz with activity, at others a gentle peace seems to descend. The boats that lie on the quay are mainly modern trawlers equipped with the latest gear, a move away from style to function. They have their own beauty, but it seems a long way from the romantic notion of a fishing boat. Yet lying aside the far quay, like a matriarch amidst the young, is Anthony Stevenson, an elderly fishing boat, no longer able to ride the high seas. Her presence there is a reminder of an ancient tradition – the craftsmanship in her hull, the layers of paint and the familiarity of her shape.” – Hilary Stock
